There are many ways to participate in welcoming our new neighbors and ensuring they have the support needed. The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Guntersville, AL, held its annual household items collection, an effort that since 2018 has benefitted organizations such as Bridge Refugee Services and the Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership. This year, the collection was held in support of Global Ties>Alabama, one of EMM’s affiliates.

Starting June 16, the parish collected linens, paper products, cleaning supplies, bath items, and kitchenware. Notably, one member donated five of each after learning that Afghan refugees highly value tea kettles and tea services.

On July 7, Father Bob Blackwell blessed the donations, praying for their effective use and the recipients’ comfort. Following the second service, volunteers transported the donations to Global Ties’ offices in Huntsville from the parish’s Monday Morning Book Study. Coincidentally, the day after the delivery, Global Ties was resettling an Afghan family!
