We are thrilled to introduce the first installment of a new series spotlighting the dedicated affiliate staff who tirelessly work behind the scenes to support our mission to welcome. Staff are nominated by colleagues who wish to recognize their hard work and dedication. In this inaugural post, we meet Hashmat Nabeel, whose tireless commitment has been instrumental in aiding Afghan evacuees in Boise, Idaho. Join us as we celebrate Hashmat’s remarkable contributions and learn more about the incredible people who make our work possible.
Originally from Afghanistan, Hashmat resettled in October 2022 through IRC Boise in Boise, Idaho. He pursued education in China but could not complete his final year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the fall of the Afghan government. Upon his arrival in Boise, the Agency for New Americans (ANA) urgently needed a Pashto and Dari interpreter to assist Afghan evacuees with their asylum cases. Hashmat stepped into this role and was soon hired as an Immigration Assistant, supporting all Idaho Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) cases, including those for Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders and humanitarian parolees (HPs).
Hashmat is a dedicated, punctual, and hardworking young man. His commitment and excellent work led to his promotion to Immigration Specialist this week, after completing studies for DOJ accreditation. He consistently goes above and beyond, often working more than scheduled to ensure the smooth operation of ANA’s programs. He treats everyone with respect and without judgment. His efforts have been crucial to ANA’s success in serving Afghan evacuees. Notably, Idaho faces a shortage of civil surgeons. Hashmat successfully established a relationship with a civil surgeon to visit Boise monthly, making it easier for Afghan evacuees and their families to access necessary examinations without traveling for four hours.
Hashmat is highly regarded by everyone in ANA’s office. He upholds strong ethics and boundaries, contributing significantly to ANA’s mission and the well-being of the Afghan community in Boise.
Thank you, Hashmat!
