Running for Home

Hometown is a podcast from Episcopal Migration Ministries and is part of the Good Book Club.  This week’s Good Book Club scripture readings: Luke 18:18-Luke 22:46

On this week’s episode, we reflect on scripture, discuss the history of Afghanistan and the contributing factors that have caused Afghans to resettle in the United States, and interview Abdul Saboor.

Interview Guest: Abdul Saboor immigrated to the United States from his Native Country; Afghanistan in 2014, where he worked as a Culture Advisor and Instructor for the Counterinsurgency Training Center with the United States Military. He helped teach counterinsurgency and counter-terrorism measures to Afghan and NATO soldiers, from 2007 to 2012. Following his work with the United States Military from 2012 to 2014, Abdul started working with USAID and AECOM International, as  Stability Program Manager on a curriculum called Stability in Key Areas. As a Stability Program Manager, Abdul worked with local leaders to help implement the Afghan version of district stability framework in addressing local grievances through programing and service delivery.

Since 2014, Abdul started working for Interfaith Works of CNY in the Center for New Americans Program. Abdul helps welcome and support several new families monthly to the city of Syracuse, New York. Abdul  oversees the Match Grant Program that guides families to achieve self-sufficiency within their 180th day in the country.
